If you want more ground clearance or better off-road handling, aftermarket suspension can help. Then there are those who might install the standard upgrades on their Prado, which could include a bull bar, winch, rock sliders, and a roof rack.
Article Caution: If you're planning to consistently add a load of 500 kilograms or more that will stay on the vehicle daily, we recommend considering a GVM upgrade. If your Prado only carries a bull bar, a winch, and some camping gear, you don’t need a GVM upgrade. It’s not necessary. It’s just not necessary!

This complete kit includes the popular Dobinsons monotube shock absorbers. They are known for their better performance than traditional twin-tube shocks. This is especially true in hot, tough, and demanding conditions.
We love this kit so much for 3 simple reasons:
1. So Smooth! The smoothness of the Monotube IMS shocks is amazing. This is especially true on long, bumpy roads. Driving with stiff suspension can be very annoying.
2. Great Coil Springs! After installing this kit, on our own personal Prado 150, as well as for a number of customers, we have not yet seen this Kit Sag in the front or the rear. Along with standard choice of front coil springs wether it be for a Prado set up with no bull bar, or with a Bull Bar, Dobinsons give you 3 choices of rear load ratings which include: 0-100kgs / 100 - 300kgs or the heavy duty 300kg - 400kg constant load!
3. Height Adjustment! The IMS Shock allows for coil adjustment, meaning you can adjust the spring rate. When Adjusting the spring rate this will of course change our stiff or soft you would want the spring to be. If you chasing a slightly bigger lift on the front of your Prado 150, these IMS Struts will give you up to 2.5inches of lift. Ideally you should leave the shocks set for a 40mm lift, for the smoothest possible ride.
Disclamer If you do go higher than the recommended 2inch lift, it is advised that you upgrade the upper control arms with aftermarket upper control arms and if you are planning to go to do some harsh tracks, we would recommend a diff drop kit to be installed.

Our Second Choice:
Firstly we would like to say, It's very hard to choose between the Foam Cell Pro & Ironman Kit and they could easily come in as equal 1st place with the Dobinsons IMS Kit.
If we were looking at height gained, the Foam Cell Pro kit from Ironman would come in 1st place, however when it comes to daily driving, the Dobinsons IMS Kit comes in 1st place. As well as a smoother drive, we found that the Dobinsons Coil Springs maintain their height longer than the ironman springs. If it wasn't for some cases where we have seen some ironman coil springs sag within the 1st 12months of fitting, the ironman foam cell pro kit would of took 1st place, especially with the Foam Cell Pro's bore size which makes them awesome, if youre going to be towing anything like a boat, tailer or caravan.
Please Note the Sag has not occurred on all Customers vehicles, but the handful we have seen over the years was enough to push the foam cell pro kit to 2nd place.

Third Choice - Budget Option
So we decided to throw in a budget option into our top 3 choices. Now when we say budget option, you can't take anything away from this twin tube Nitro gas suspension kit from Dobinsons. There are many cheaper kits on the market from brands you've probably never heard of, however when it comes to suspension & tyres we strongly believe going with the brands you know and have proven their worth over the years.
For those who aren't going to be towing, we find this Twin Tube Nitro Gas kit an awesome bit of gear. This kit uses the same coil springs found on the IMS kit, so you can trust you will get the lift you need, to have more ground clearance and fit bigger all terrain or muddies if needed. The Twin Tube Nitro Gas shocks are defiantly a big upgrade from the factory gas shocks and will provide a much smoother ride both on & offroad!. So if you save a few hundred dollars and not interested in towing we would recommend this kit!
